Anisimova eyes Wimbledon glory as family story captures hearts

Amanda Anisimova is the only American woman left in the 2025 Wimbledon singles draw, heading into the quarterfinals against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. This marks her best run at the All England Club since her previous quarterfinal appearance in 2022. While her powerful baseline game and fierce determination have brought her into the spotlight, it’s the story of her immigrant parents and tennis-filled childhood that’s capturing fans’ attention off the court.

Amanda Anisimova family: From Moscow to America

Amanda’s rise in tennis has deep roots in her family’s bold decision to start a new life in the United States. Her parents, Olga and Konstantin, emigrated from Moscow to America in 1998 when their elder daughter Maria was just 10. Although neither played tennis growing up, both parents threw themselves into the sport to support their daughters’ athletic dreams.

Back in Russia, Olga worked as an accountant in banking, and Konstantin had a background in finance as well. Once in the U.S., their lives began to revolve around tennis. Konstantin eventually became Amanda’s first coach, while Olga created a tennis camp to help Amanda balance a full-time tennis career with a social life.

Amanda’s Mother: Olga’s quiet influence

Amanda’s mother, Olga, played a crucial role in shaping her daughter’s early development. In interviews, she recalled how Amanda picked up a racket as early as age two. “Until she was 7, no one touched her,” Olga once said, emphasizing that Amanda developed her own style.

Knowing that Amanda didn’t attend traditional school, Olga created a tennis camp so her daughter could grow up around kids her age. Many of Amanda’s close friends today came from that environment. “She didn’t miss out on anything,” her sister Maria shared, crediting their mother for finding a balance between ambition and childhood.

Amanda’s father, a coach, a lasting legacy

Amanda’s father, Konstantin, wore many hats: mentor, motivator, and father figure. After settling in Florida when Amanda was three, he began coaching her seriously. As Amanda progressed, she moved on to professional coaches, but Konstantin remained her biggest supporter.

He was a voice of caution in the often chaotic world of junior tennis. “You can’t overtrain. You can’t over-push,” he said in a 2017 interview, warning of the pressure parents often place on their kids. Sadly, he passed away from a sudden heart attack in August 2019, just days before Amanda’s 18th birthday.

Amanda withdrew from the U.S. Open that year. “It was the worst thing that ever happened to me,” she told reporters later. In the years since, she’s spoken about the emotional toll and how hard it was to return to normal life. “It never goes away,” she said. “But you have to get back to life.”

Amanda Anisimova’s Boyfriend

Back in 2020, Anisimova was reportedly dating Tyler Roos, a model from Melbourne and son of AFL legend Paul Roos. He even posted sweet snaps of Amanda, joking that he “taught her all she knows.” Roos once appeared on The Amazing Race Australia, adding a reality TV twist to the tennis romance. But in recent months, the social media silence between them has raised questions about whether the relationship is still going strong.
