Freddie Freeman’s Bloop Single in the 11th Launches a Winning Rally as Dodgers Defeat Giants 5-2.

One day after ending a seven-game losing streak that was the worst of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Sunday to win the series when Freddie Freeman blooped a single into shallow right-center with two outs in the 11th inning to score James Outman for the game-winning run.

Prior to Freeman’s delivery with a ball that fell between three Giants, Spencer Bivens (2-3) purposefully walked Shohei Ohtani to begin the eleventh inning and retired Mookie Betts and Will Smith.

Andy Pages then singled for RBI after Teoscar Hernández beat out an infield single for an insurance run.

After forcing Willy Adames to ground out at the end of the 10th, Ben Casparius (7-3) threw a flawless 11th to secure the victory.

Matt Chapman singled with one out to open the rally against Tanner Scott, who blew his fifth save in 26 chances, and pinch-hitter Luis Matos blasted a tying two-run homer in the ninth.

Los Angeles led until the ninth inning thanks to a home run by Miguel Rojas and an early RBI double by Freeman.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a Dodgers starter and a first-time All-Star, gave up three hits and struck out seven batters in seven innings.

After completing the first half with nine consecutive games against teams with winning records, the Dodgers (58-39), the reigning World Series champions, led the NL West going into the All-Star break.

Dave Roberts, the manager, stated on Sunday that he intends to start left-hander Clayton Kershaw early in what may be his final Midsummer Classic when he and his staff go to Atlanta to manage the NL All-Stars.

In a game with just 11 hits overall, Los Angeles had done just enough against Giants lefty Robbie Ray.

Ohtani was denied an extra-base hit to begin the game when Giants left fielder Heliot Ramos made a leaping catch on the wall. The fourth inning was a walk, the fifth was a single, and the eighth was a flyout.

Having won the NL West with a franchise-high 107 wins in 2021, 2016, 2014, and 2011, San Francisco (52-45) advanced to the break with 52 wins for the seventh time in the previous 20 seasons.
