The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 13-3 on Tuesday, smashing a franchise-high nine home runs.
Before Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton hit straight home runs in the first inning to set up what would turn out to be a blowout, the players had to wait for nearly two hours as the game was delayed by rain and lightning.
The Yankees’ 20-9 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season set a record of nine home runs, which is matched by the nine home runs today.
According to MLB, the accomplishment makes the Bronx Bombers the first team in league history to record two games with nine home runs, whether during the same season or not.

According to MLB, manager Aaron Boone remarked, “To do it twice, that’s remarkable.” Some of them were also severely impacted.
“Just a really strong offensive performance against a team that frequently makes it difficult to score runs.”
The Toronto Blue Jays set the MLB record of 10 home runs in a game in 1987, and the Yankees were just one home run away from matching that record.
